Folks,
Sorry for starting a message like this but I am about frustrated beyond belief at this point. Having spent the last couple years developing half of my projects in Enliven and the other half in flash, it is very important that a software product work effectively.

I have been battling clients on ways to get around Enliven not working on Safari on Mac's for a while now, but they came out with the Mac version a few months ago which allowed me to thwart many of these concerns. However, I just took the summer off from Enliven to do more flash projects. I come back a couple weeks ago and none of my Enliven projects work anymore. Absolutely none. Apparently the new version of Firefox 3.0.3 can't handle any Enliven content so it crashes any time you try to view viewpoint media content. If this was a product developed by my company it would be on the hot fix list and be fixed within 24 hours. But, I don't know whats going on here guys. There are way to many people out there on the web for you to let this happen. Whats worse is that Firefox doesn't just gracefully display a blank page with Viewpoint player missing content, no... it crashes the entire browser. You guys have got to get this fixed. If this is not your issue and it is some freak thing going on with two of my machines then I apologize.

Second, I'm now having problems with a newer version of IE as well on Vista. I can get Viewpoint content to display using interactive Javascript using IE 7.0.5730.13 on XP but on my newer computer using IE 7.0.6000.16711 the same exact application with same resource folders display a blank white screen where the VMP should be displaying content. I also tried updating the latest VMP on my newer machine but it didn't help. Maybe this messed things up worse.

This is very difficult to deal with when you had several projects that worked in the past and then return to display them to potential clients just a couple months later and none of them work anymore. I sure hope this is my issue because if others are having these issues, then we got some major problems on our hands Viewpoint. I would appreciate some kind of feedback as I have several projects that are not working properly sitting in my portfolio.

-Thanks!

cctman... sorry to hear about your frustrations. First off, I want to reiterate that a VMP release that addresses FF3 issues is our top priority. Internally, we're making very good progress. There were numerous issues to fix FF3 for both XP and Vista and it looks like we're coming down the homestretch now. It will definitely be in our next release (it shouldn't be too far off, but I still don't have a definitive timeline yet. I will provide an update when I have more information). Additionally, we're updating the Mts3Interface.

As for IE7, we have tested the same version of IE7 on Vista (7.0.6000.16711) and have not run into any problems yet. I'm not sure if this is specific to your content or not. We will investigate further, but if there's a link you want to post or more information you'd like to share, we'll take a look.

Thanks!

OK, but is there any version that will work with the new Firefox? Maybe we can revert back. As of now I had to take down all Enliven content in my portfolio so that people didn't have the browsers crash when they visit my site.

According too http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0 site they claim that almost 20% of the users out there use firefox, and the update was pretty much automatic to 3.0. So if you do the math you have 10-20% users out there with crashing browsers trying to view any enliven content. This scares me...

Any idea on progress? any suggestions? What are developers doing to get around this dilemma?

Once again, I apologize for the delays with getting out a new VMP that addresses FF3 compatibility. The good news is that it appears that all FF3 issues have been resolved. We have fixed both the crash issue on Vista and the drawing issue that occurs on both XP and Vista. We are now in a heavy testing cycle. At the same time, we're determining if any other updates needed to be added to the next VMP release. For example, we're also looking at IE8 compatibility. We still don't have a definitive date for the next VMP release, but it will certainly address your main FF3 concerns. When I have an idea of the date, we will post that information.

I'll take the lack of response on the new version of enliven as a sign that it's not coming out.

Considering this response from July 2007:

I am unsure that a version 2 is even being considered for release.
