I thought I may have seen a post on this previously but can't seem to find it.
It seems whenever I import my Maya models no matter what I do to them prior too, the models center points are all re-evaluated to be the same as all the others in the scene. How do I get the imported models to retain their center points or pivots? The problem I'm working with, is that when a user clicks on a model, the camera should animate to the center point of the models. I got this to work before but using only created geometries in Enliven because their center points are different than imported models. It would work if I could retain my imported models center points I guess. Suggestions? This message has been edited. Last edited by: cctman, |

Hi cct,
I'll try to offer suggestions, though I'm a Max user ;-). I heard from one of our Maya guys that you need to "freeze the pivots" in Maya. The problem being that while exporting from Maya, it zeroes-out the pivots. So freezing them is supposed to work. If this isn't working for you perhaps you could use "dummy" objects? For example, in Max, it has what are called "dummy" objects - they are basically geometry-less cubes that you can use in the scene and when you export them, they export as empty instances. Do you have any option like this in Maya? If not, could you consider using cube parent objects in Maya instead of pivots and then place those parents where you would have placed the pivots? You could then simply delete the cube geometry from those instances when you bring them into Enliven. |
