why does my system crash when an embedded media player on a web page trys to connect to a server

You'll really need to give us lots more information to resolve the problem. Ideally we need the OS version, browser version, details of recreating the problem and how the content was created. If you can actually send the files (in a ZIP/SIT file) we can see the problem occurring live. Or post a link to the content if it's on the web.

Derek's correct; we can't begin to say without specifics. Sometimes, corrupted data can cause a crash. Other times, the embed is not correct. Specifics please! Thanks.

I have the same problem. When I link to a video clip embedded in a web site, as soon as the Media player begins to open, my system crashes. One example are the video clips at www.firstcoastnews.com
I am using IE 6.0 and Media Player 7.1, running in Win 98. BTW,
Media Player works fine when opened outside of the browser window.
Your comments or ideas would be appreciated.
