When a browser comes upon a web page which has a Viewpoint Experience Technology scene (i.e. VET Media Player with content) and the browser does not have the VET plug-in to show the scene, then a JavaScript sniffer senses this and pops up a new window with an offer to download the player immediately.
The early iterations of this (back in the MetaStream days) laid promise to not force the browser application to restart while still installing the player and making it work. That wish was a little unrealistic and restarting the browser is not really a big deal. Once the plug in is installed, then it is magically updated by Viewpoint (Sree and Co. are wizards). -- Good luck in your quest here. Read voraciously from the documentation area of Developer Central and you will be further enlightened. hth DavidR |
