I've heard a couple complaints regarding the netscape install dialogs warning the plugin as 'high risk'... and therefore denying the install... now I'm smart (dumb) enough to ignore them, but there are those who do read the dialogues and take them quite litteraly... I don't suspect there are any easy solutions, being netscape/java and all, but has this come up at all? Any workarounds?

Two points to that issue Duncan.

First point is that RealPlayer and Flash also are warned as being high risk, that didn't stop them having 100 million downloads each.

Second point is that you have to imagine what a netscape user is.

Netscape is not installed as standard on most (or maybe even all) machines. If you've got netscape installed it's because your more advanced than a lowest common denominator user (newbie type). If youve already gone to the trouble of clicking yes or OK to installing the plugin then that final warning is unlikely to stop you. You wouldnt have clicked Yes earlier if you had any doubt about the company you were installing from. The only question really is, do I trust the company whose website asked me to install the plugin, like Nike, Sony, Eddie Bauer etc or do I trust the company who wrote the plugin - viewpoint. As the name of viewpoint becomes more and more known in the web community there will be no doubt.

One suggestion to viewpoint though. Why don't you get your installer hosted on CNET downloads and ZDNET. Theres an inherent feeling of security (for me at least) knowing that a program has passed the virus checking and whatever other standards those websites impose on something that is hosted by them. It's also nice when your downloading from such a site to see the number of millions of people that have already downloaded it from there. I dont feel too concerned installing something that managed to stay on CNET through 1 million plus downloads without being removed due to customer complaints.
