Plugin detection dosen't seem to be working using resource files version 4.0 for IE 5.5. It works fine for IE 6.0. Pre version 4.0 resource files, detection works however the auto install locks up. Basically if you uninstall the player and view content with IE 5.5 you will not be able to view viewpoint content without visiting viewpoint and installing the plugin from there. If the developer has used resource files version 4.0 and your using IE 5.5 the page will just hang.

Hi,
Version 4.0.1.10 (the most recent version of MTS3Interface) should work fine with IE 5.5. It has gone through extensive testing in all versions of IE and Netscape, version 4 and above, under a variety of OS's and hardware configurations. I would suggest the problem is likely with the content. Are you triggering the popup correctly? Are you using a ContentType variable or not?

If you can seem to reproduce this problem consistently (3 times or more under the same conditions), I would report this as a bug to us. Specifically, you'd need to supply us with the exact version of:
- MT3Interface
- Your OS, and any revision of that OS (Ex. Windows ME)
- Browser
- System Language, if not English.

Hi Kukan,

Thanks for posting this. Quite honestly, I'm stumped. Viewpoint very, very thoroughly tests each new MTS3Interface release. Of course, IE 5.5 is the browser that we most rigorously test this with. So, it would be a huge help to us if you could provide more details. First of all, by "version 4.0 resource files", do you mean the lates MTS3Interface? If so, can you provide EXACT version numbers for everything, such as "04.00.03.14", etc. Exact version numbers for your browsers and your configuration would help too. (Win 98, 2K, etc.)

Probably the biggest help would be a zipped up copy of your content, including, of course, the resource files. If you could send them to my attention at qa-support@viewpoint.com, your help would be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to let you know what we find. Looking forward to more information...

Hi Chris and Jeremy,

This information should clarify a few things....

I could send you some of our content however I don't believe that it would solve the issue. I believe that the problem is with any Viewpoint content that uses MTS3Interface.js as a detection and installation script. Yes that does include the content on your site. Try the following links with the system configuration listed further down the page.

http://www.viewpoint.com/demos/vpdemos/flashvet/vaio/index.html
http://www.viewpoint.com/demos/vpdemos/electronics/aibo/index.html
http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/explorer/3Dviews/
http://www.viewpoint.com/demos/vpdemos/zoomview/medical/index.html
http://www.hermanmillerred.com/planit

The site I specifically noticed the issue with was one that we are currently working on www.metabuild3d.com. Some of our staff were doing testing from their homes when they noticed that the genie was not automatically installing the Flash component. We did some testing and found out that the issue was with MTS3Interface.js version = 04.00.01.10 and IE 5.5. We reverted back to a version we thought worked MTS3Interface.js version = 3.0.7.33. However through testing (removing player with Viewpoint control panel clearing browser cache and reloading the page) we discovered that the auto install was not completing for IE 5.5 and that the manual install link was broken. End result user gets locked up on the entry page, gets frustrated and gives up. Obviously not a good outcome. We have tested this many more times than three.

Below is the configuration that is causing the issues. We have not tested on earlier versions of IE and currently do not bother checking content for Netscape. Everything seems to work fine under IE 6.0.2600.0000IC.

Microsoft Windows 2000 Version = 5.00.2195 Internet Explorer Version = 5.50.4807.2300 with service pack 2

MTS3Interface.js version = 04.00.01.10 Detection does not work.

MTS3Interface.js version = 3.0.7.33 Detection works sometimes however installer hangs and link for manual install is broken.

To answer Jeremy's questions.

Are you triggering the popup correctly?

Yes. That is if your Viewpoint Media Publisher version = 3.0.10.4 creates the correct code using the generic template, which I believe it does.

Are you using a ContentType variable or not?

No but it should be irrelevant according to the following documentation from you site.

"Specify the content type (ContentType): For a 3D installation, use ?ContentType=1?. (If you omit the ContentType variable, the Redirector runs the 3D installation.) MTS Interface versions 3.0.7.33 and earlier don?t pass the ContentType to redirector. If these outdated versions encounter a ContentType variable, the variable is ignored and Redirector defaults to a 3D installation."

Whilst we are on the subject of "Setting Up VMP Auto-Installation From Your Web Page". I think there is an error in your instructions.

"For a ZoomView installation, use ?ContentType=2?." "For a ZoomView installation, use ?ContentType=3?."
Shouldn't ?ContentType=3? be for all components?

Cheers,
Che
