Hey Viewpoint/Enliven QA,

I found what appears to be a bug with the new VMP. Some of my content started going totally haywire and crashing after the VMP auto-updated. After isolating many things, I found that it's being caused by MTSPanorama. Same content plays fine with older VMP's but as soon as I update the VMP to last version, it crashes. I'm loading an external jpg into the pano's MTSTextureMap. For sure it's a problem with the latest VMP. Thanks,

~Chris

Here is a zip file with a scene showing the problem. Note that it appears that when there is a pano, a lightmap and geometry. Please see attached.

Please refer to the New Code Reference (available on Dev Central) http://reference.viewpoint.com/cr/type.php?id=17&ti=93

You need not define the x and y size attributes for a TextureMap used for MTSPanorama.

I removed those values from your example and it works perfect.

I had actually removed the pano entirely and replaced it with an swf pre-animator version of the sky gradiant. Even without the pano, I was still getting severe crashes when I played the scene over the Web. (Note that my actual scene is loading several swfs, mtx's, and of course, the lightmap.) It appeared that the player could not handle all the loading at once. This wasn't an issue with the older players. I used some interactors to control all loading orders (MTSLoadDone, etc.) and that fixed the problem. Are there any issues with loading multiple swfs, jpgs, mtxs in more complex scenes, as far as this new player is concerned?

Again, I do want to emphasize that both the pano problem and the loading problem only cropped up with the latest player release. We didn't notice them at first because we have not started QA'ing the scene and thus, had not tried it on machines with the newest player installed. So, not sure when the latest version was released, but it's the only one that can't play either versions of our scene: pano, lightmap, etc. vs. pre-animator, lightmap, etc. So, it's great to know about the x and y issues in the pano, but it only came about with the new player. Thanks!

Not that I know of. Can you send in the link which shows the crash. Would help in exploring the bug (either content or VMP).

I will try and post in the future, but right now, it's for a government client and we can't post it. If I can recreate with a different scene, I will send. Thanks.

If I remember - this is one of your developed content - http://www.castle-cooke.com/Waikoloa/Kikaha/PlanA/default.aspx

I presume this also involves multiple SWFs and MTS files. Also I see Lens Flare and Panorama.

Works great with new VMP installed.

Hi Anup,

Yes, this scene and all old content is working except for the current one. I will see what I can do to post it. The new one is considerably more complex than these other ones, as far as loading elements. Like I said, it was working with all players, except the current one. Once I put very specific loading orders into the scene, it worked great. The thing I could not understand is why only the new player could not handle the loading. I'll try and recreate an example to post for you.

But one thing to know is that it's loading a swf menu (out of Flash MX), a placeholder swf to keep the swf interaction from getting confused with the VET content, swf textures, multiple mts's, jpg lightmaps, and consecutive mtx's. What would happen is that it would get the first bit of geometry loaded, but then jam up.

Do you know if the MTS interface has any issues with loading? Thanks.

Actually, now I have an even worse question: what's up with the VMP download off Viewpoint's servers? I'm trying to either download it via the Viewpoint website or by hitting a VET scene on a machine without it installed and I'm getting nothing but error messages. I seriously hope this is a temporary situation! Just go to Dev Central and try to download the executable and you'll see what I mean. Frown Not good.
