Hello,

I have a question about installation of Toolbar.

Although I have been using Viewpoint Media Player for some time, in order to make a certain day Toolbar install, the tab came out to the screen of PC.
Since I knew Toolbar, I have coped with it.

However, it is said those who do not know Toolbar "Since a message is automatic and is displayed, it is troubled."

As which timing is a message displayed?

The user of our client also has the voice which suspects Viewpoint, as regards Toolbar as SPYWARE or a VIRUS....

How should we explain to our client?

Thanks,
/Muneto

Hello Muneto,

If your problem is the update alert, The Viewpoint popup that you are seeing is being offered as an opt-in experience based on your Viewpoint Manager Preference settings. You can change these settings by opening the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel (Start>Settings>Control Panel) (switch to Classic View if you are using Windows XP)>Viewpoint Manager) and checking "disable auto-update for the Viewpoint Manager."

If you decline our invitation using the "No, Thanks" button on the "Details" page, the toolbar will not install, no settings will be changed and the dialog box will disappear.

If you already opted-in by clicking "Update" and would like to completely remove the Viewpoint Toolbar, we offer a guide here: http://search.viewpoint.com/help/uninstall.html -- This guide can also be accessed by clicking on the Viewpoint logo in the upper right of the Viewpoint Toolbar and selecting Uninstall.

We apologize for any inconvenience the installation of the Popup opt-in message may have caused you If you have any comments or suggestions on how we can improve our service, we would love to hear from you. You can send us your comments by replying to this email, using our Feedback page or emailing us directly at support@viewpoint.com

Thanks for your time,

That uninstall link does not work - it leaves all sorts of junk on my computer. I want to completely remove this program that I never installed in the first place from my computer. How does one accomplish this? I want all registry files, all DLLs, all traces of it gone.

Viewpoint installed a toolbar on my computer without my knowledge nor my concent. It is unethical behavior at the least. Please see my response to them when I requested that it be uninstalled.

This was installed on my computer without my knowledge and I believe it is a violation of my privacy. Like you broke into my house put something in my house so that you could see when I left the house or what I was watching on TV. If you continue in this kind of behavior, you will be shut down and those like you, by the US Government. PS I'm forwarding this on to the Better Business Bureau and to my government representative.

Dear Muneto,

I'm sorry you had problems with our uninstaller. I would be glad to help you uninstall the Viewpoint Toolbar. While we stand behind the Viewpoint Toolbar as a free and effective graphically enhanced search application, we fully understand your desire to opt-out of the experience. If the uninstall link did not work for you, follow these steps:

1. Close all your Internet Explorer windows
1.b. If by chance you also have AOL and or AIM installed on your computer, than you must also close their windows
2. Open "Add or Remove Programs" in your Control Panel window (found in Start>Settings>Control Panel)
3. Find the Viewpoint Toolbar entry and click the "Change/Remove" button. All associated files and folders will be removed from your computer.

Please note: If you have any browser windows open during the uninstall, you may still see the Toolbar in those windows. Any new browser windows opened after the uninstall is complete will not show the toolbar.

The Viewpoint Media Player is a plug-in that enables the viewing of 3D content on the internet. It is the engine that drives AOL Super Buddies, AIM Themes and many other popular web applications such as Scion's car configurator(http://www.scion.com/scion/pub/bys/main.do). The Viewpoint Media Player and Manager is bundled with AOL, AIM, versions of Netscape, certain Adobe products and most retail computers sold today.

When we created the “update” message you encountered, we were trying to communicate all of this and more to our user base – all within a very limited space and all with the understanding that though we have been on millions of computers since 1999, very few people know who we are or that we even exist.

If you have any problems uninstalling the toolbar, please reply to this email and we'll work with you to make sure that the Toolbar uninstalls correctly.

We apologize for any inconvenience the installation of the Toolbar may have caused you. Please feel free to contact us if you have additional questions.

Best Regards,
Viewpoint Support

Your #$#4 software installed intself on my business computer without permission. I come in on Monday morning and there it is. I have followed the "uninstall" instructions - mere minutes ago - and I hope it is over. But I read with disgust how others are having problems getting your crap to leave them alone. IF THIS UNINSTALL DOES NOT WORK I AM CONTACTING MY ATTORNEY. This is not right and you obviously DO NOT GIVE A $#%@ otherwise you wouldn't do it. ---line striken by admin ---. Is it still in the registry? Is it still in the registry? Did the uninstall remove everything from my registry?

Hello,

The viewpoint software you received either comes with certain features of your machine already installed or was installed by someone using your machine. The Viewpoint Media Player is a plug-in that enables the viewing of 3D content on the internet. It is akin to products such as Macromedia's flash player (www.macromedia.com/flash) and Apple's Quicktime (www.apple.com/quicktime). Just like these products, it is a plug-in that enables extremely immersive multimedia experiences on websites with animation, sound, and video. But beyond these products, the viewpoint media player also has the capability for fully interactive 3D (virtual reality -- like a video game). It is also the engine that drives AOL's 3D Super Buddies, AOL Instant Messenger Themes and many popular web applications such as Scion's car configurator(http://www.scion.com/scion/bys/main.do). The Viewpoint Media Player and Manager is bundled with AOL, AIM, versions of Netscape, certain Adobe products and most retail computers sold today.

If they were not already on your machine from the delivery methods described above, then neither the viewpoint search bar nor the viewpoint media player plugin can install themselves on your machine without the permission of someone using your computer -- EVER. Neither the viewpoint media player plug-in nor the toolbar are spyware. Many programs run on people's machines every day that they are not aware of and that power certain features on their system that are not spyware. If you were to scan your system using most anti-spyware programs such as "Ad Aware" or "Spybot Search and Destroy", our software would not be detected because it is on their white lists. We, like you, find spyware to be reprehensible and stand firmly behind our commitment to no spyware (see link "our position on spyware": http://www.viewpoint.com/pub/privacy_commitment.html).

We understand that many people become nervous when they see software on their machine from a company they're not aware of which is why we keep a very open and honest dialog about this on our website (try going to the website of any spyware company and see if you can have an open and honest dialog with them about their software). As a rule of thumb, just because you are not familiar with certain software running on your machine does not mean it is spyware (if you looked in your processes list in "Task Manager" on your machine right now you would see MANY softwares running on your machine that you may not be familiar with but that are most likely perfectly legit). Personally, whenever I see processes on my machine I'm not familiar with I look it up in the WinTasks process library. The WinTasks process library is an independent website that keeps track of processes so people can know what's running on their machine. Their main website is at http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary. If you look up our process "ViewMgr.exe" in the WinTasks library, you find this description: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/ViewMgr/.

Lastly, we will provide here a detailed description on how to completely remove viewpoint software from your machine. If, after following these instructions, you believe remnants of the software remain, please email us at support@viewpoint.com and we will be more than happy to work with you to resolve the matter. BUT PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THE LANGUAGE YOU HAVE OPTED FOR IN YOUR PREVIOUS MESSAGE. Such language is against company policy and will not be tolerated on our forums. If you choose to continue with inappropriate language, we will ban you from making futher posts.

-----------------------------------
UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Close all your Internet Explorer windows
1.b. If by chance you also have AOL and or AIM installed on your computer, then you must also close their windows
2. Open "Add or Remove Programs" in your Control Panel window (found in Start>Settings>Control Panel)
3. Find the Viewpoint Toolbar entry and click the "Change/Remove" button. All associated files and folders will be removed from your computer.
4. Repeat the above step for the viewpoint media player if it is on your machine.

Please note: If you have any browser windows open during the uninstall, you may still see the Toolbar in those windows. Any new browser windows opened after the uninstall is complete will not show the toolbar.
Also, Viewpoint software is installed through applications such as AOL or AIM and if you have them on your machine, they will re-install the viewpoint media player because it is a necessary component for their operation.

If you have any problems uninstalling the software, please send an email to support@viewpoint.com and we'll work with you to make sure that the software uninstalls correctly.

We apologize for any inconvenience the installation of our software may have caused you. Please feel free to contact us if you have additional questions.

Regards,
Viewpoint Support

So, once Viewpoint "stuff" is removed ... How do you remove the entry in the Control Panel?
BTW ... it's common in the industry to "rent"/"lease" space and processing cycles. What are you willing to pay to be on my system?
or ... can I have a PO?

Hello,

Once you remove the viewpoint manager and viewpoint media player using "Add/Remove Programs" in your control panel, the Viewpoint entry in the Control Panel should go away. Are you sure you refreshed the control panel page when you finished removing the Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player?

Regards,
Viewpoint Support

Hello,

Here are directions on how to manually uninstall any stuff we put on the computer as well as removing us from the registry. The folders that should be deleted are as follows:

c:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Viewpoint Toolbar

and

c:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Viewpoint/ViewBar

This will completely uninstall anything Viewpoint from your computer. Finally, to delete Viewpoint from your registry:

1. Click on the Start menu and Select run
2. Type in regedit and hit enter
3. Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
4. Click on the plus sign next to Software
5. Right Click on the Viewpoint folder and select delete

However, you should be aware that if you re-install AOL or AIM or still have them on your machine, they will re-install viewpoint next time they are run.

Regards,
Viewpoint Support

All of your above suggestions did not work. Also, AOL came with this system and was DELETED/UNISTALLED within 5 minutes of opening the box. AIM was NEVER on this system. The icon is still in my Control Panel (XP Home) and it's still functional. Thanks

Hello,

The only other way I know of to delete Viewpoint from your computer is to delete the following folders:

c:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Viewpoint Toolbar

and

c:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Viewpoint/ViewBar

Note: You need to close all browser windows before deleting these folders. Also, close all AOL and AIM programs.

Hello Cumbers,

The Viewpoint icon you speak of is placed in the Viewpoint Manager folder. If the folder is gone, then the icon should be gone. Have you tried to delete the icon? If so, what error message does it give? Again, we do apologize for this problem.

Best Regards,

Your software, auto installed a browser toolbar as part of an auto-update (a very ugly one at that, you might want to look at the Google and Yahoo toolbars before you launch a product). Now, none of your software is on my computer and it never will be.

To prey on people that do not know better is shameful, and that is what you are doing. To pretend that just because I have the Viewpoint viewer entitles your software to auto-install another software truly shows how ignorant your company is. If I was a Viewpoint employee and knew about this, I would walk out the door in a heartbeat -- sick to my stomach....
