Hi Adam!!
You need to assign FLAT COLOR MATERIAL and UVW MAPPING for getting their visibility to Viewpoint Scene. Best Regards, Anup |

Do I assign these within SolidWorks or is it a ViewPoint process.

Hi Adam,
Using colour alone can cause other problems as well. I use Wings, and the colours come into Scenebuilder without a problem, but there is a problem if I instance the object - all looks OK until I re-open the MTX, then find that only the last instance made has colour. Seems like you have to do like Anup suggests Nowadays I texture the object right from the start, it's easier in the long run.... edit to add just tried bringing in a sphere that I'd applied 2 colours to in Wings. Nothing shows up in the regular MTX, but here's the material info from the verbose MTX Material Name="sphere_MATERIAL_0" ID="0" Opacity="1" Dither="0" EdgeBias="1073741824" RenderMode="LightTexture" MTSColor Type="Diffuse" r="0.17255" g="0.52549" b="0.07059" MTSMaterial MTSMaterial Name="sphere_MATERIAL_1" ID="1" Opacity="1" Dither="0" EdgeBias="1073741824" RenderMode="LightTexture" MTSColor Type="Diffuse" r="1" g="0.66667" b="0.07059" MTSMaterial If you want to continue using material colour, it might be worth your while investigating the Verbose MTX, and cutting and pasting tags across into the regular MTX, and filling in the colour details in Notepad. Hi Adam and Runner!!
1) Its always best to assign the MATERIAL from the first stage. 2) Before you Instance a Object, SAVE A COPY OF THE MTX file IN VERBOSE mode (Debug Menu in Scene Builder). DO NOT OVERWRITE THE ORIGINAL FILE. Actually Verbose mode gives a big detailed code of even the flat colors assigned as Materials. These materials are skipped if you directly Instance objects and save the MTX. Once you have the Copy File in Verbose mode, you can open BOTH the files in MTX editor(Ultraedit or NotePad) namely : a) The file in which you have the instanced object. b) The verbose mode file. Compare the codes for the instanced object. Copy the missing Material codes form the Verbose mode MTX file to the normal MTX file. Enjoy!!! Best Regards, Anup |

Thanks for your help...
Unfortunately I think my problem may lie else where. Solidworks automatically generatles the .mtx and .mts files. The parts on my model ALREADY HAVE their own color (not a texture) before I generate the files. When I open the .mtx file in SceneBuilder the model does not have any colors on it. Hmm?? (Sorry bout all the newbie type questions |

Hey Adam!!
The flat color of the objects won't get exported. You have to texturize objects with the color you want. Then you will see the objects colored. Best Regards, Anup |

Hey Adam,
I’m working with SolidWorks as well. What I found out is that you shouldn’t apply colours and transparencies to features but to faces individually than it will be exported. You don’t have to texturize objects. I use Polytrans to get my models to 3dmax to create textures and animations. The export feature of SolidWorks isn’t al that I guess. Hope its helps!! Sirhc |

Adam,
I am also using SolidWorks. My files are assmeblies where each part is a specific color. My parts show up the proper colors when saved to MTX. I have yet to try coloring indivudual faces of parts. |
