Hi there,

It seems to me that it is very easy to 'steal' a broadcastkey. Let me explain.

I am a licensed Viewpoint developer. I've done a project for my client and stored the html/mtz/mts files on his server. To get rid of the watermark I requested a broadcastkey for his domain (let's say www.clients-domain.com ), and I store it on my own server. In the html file I aply the proper reference (let's say "http://www.my-domain.com/broadcastkey.mtx").

Everything fine till now. Since I am a licensed user the code will not expire (that's right isn't it?).

Now suppose one of my competitors approaches my client and says he can deliver content cheaper. He does the following. First he looks in the html file, and sees where the broadcastkey is stored. He types this address (http://www.my-domain.com/broadcastkey.mtx) in his browser, and the file will download.
Then he stores the file on his server, let's say www.thiefs-domain.com
Finaly he changes the reference in the html file to this new address.
Since the broadcastkey doesn't expire, and since you can publish any number of 3D content under a domain ones a broadcastkey is generated for it, my competitor can deliver as much viewpoint content as he wants for my ex-client, without ever buying a license.

What do you think Viewpoint?

Regards,
Koen

PS, also my competitor can see all the other domainnames that are in the broadcastkey.mtx file, and he can approach them offering content for less money since he doesn't need to buy a license.
It might be hypotatical, but still...

Hi Koen,

What you suggest could, of course, occur while we are using the Broadcast Key system. Once the publisher application is available, this will no longer occur since the content itself holds the 'license'.

If you feel that competitors might indeed take advantage of the key you generated for your client, then you can, of course, remove it from your server.

You could also email Viewpoint and we would be happy to address the issue with the offending party.

Cheers, Andrew

Thanks Andrew. When will the publisher application be available?

Koen
